Linda Bacak Retires After 26 Years of Service
In a 1999 introduction in Texas Co-op Power magazine, Wharton County Electric Cooperative announced a new face at the co-op. Members were promised a warm welcome and cheerful personality, and for the last 26 years that is exactly what Linda Bacak has delivered.
“Linda walked into WCEC on March 15, 1999, with a huge smile, and to this day, she continues bringing out the best in everyone,” says Manager of Consumer Services Mary Arredondo. “It would be impossible to sum up Linda’s accomplishments and achievements, but she will be remembered as hardworking, committed, and a true example of dedication.”
Starting as a receptionist/cashier, Linda soon became a familiar face in the front office of WCEC. Her duties later expanded to include a strictly cashier role, and she was tasked with managing past-due accounts and collections.
“Linda’s job could be tough some months,” Arredondo says. “However, she was always considerate of our member’s individual situations. She was always willing to help in any way that she could and was fair to everyone. Linda just has a way of making people feel heard and cared for.”
“Linda just has a bubbly personality,” Billing Specialist Janice Kulcak agrees. “Her laugh is infectious! She has grown to be one of my best friends, and I will miss our lunches together.”
If the Charlie Chaplin quote about a day without laughter being a day wasted is true, Linda has never wasted a day in her life. Her laugh and sense of humor are what most of her fellow WCEC co-workers will miss the most.
“I will miss hearing her contagious laugh in the office,” Executive Secretary Brenda Moreno says. “Linda is hardworking and always willing to help anyone, but she is also the most friendly, outgoing, and people-loving person I know. We have been blessed to have her on our Home Team and to call her friend.”
“There’s never a dull moment with Linda!” Manager of IT/ Metering Keith Beal says. “She just seems to bring joy to those around her.”
“Linda’s hard work will not be forgotten at WCEC,” Arredondo adds. “But her ‘Betty Rubble’ laugh will echo in the office always.”
“Linda leaves some big shoes to fill!” WCEC Board Member Craig Hardin says. “She will be missed, but she has definitely earned her retirement.”
Indeed, Linda will be missed by everyone at WCEC, but we wish her all the best in her retirement years. Her plans are to travel and spend as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Thank you for your dedication and hard work, Linda! We have been lucky to have you on the WCEC HOME TEAM these past 26 years.
