A MESSAGE FROM YOUR WCEC CEO

KYLE WALLIS

Honoring Our Legacy, Building for the Future

Let me start by saying “Thank you.” It is an honor and a privilege to serve Wharton County Electric Cooperative members as the eighth CEO of this great cooperative.

I am excited for the opportunity to work alongside my new WCEC family—our employees, members, friends, neighbors, fellow distribution cooperatives, and our partners at South Texas Electric Cooperative. I believe in open communication and working together to find thoughtful solutions to issues facing the co-op and to ensure reliable electricity reaches our members safely, consistently, and efficiently.

Building relationships with the members of our cooperative is important to me because understanding the people and communities we serve helps us provide better service and make better decisions for the future. While I’ve had the opportunity to meet many of you over the years, I look forward to getting to know even more of our membership in the years ahead.

My wife and I have been married for 23 years. We have called El Campo home since 2002 and have raised our two daughters here. We are active members of the community and in our church, and I have a passion for ensuring our community continues to thrive. Reliable electricity is the basis for future success in our community, and I intend to keep WCEC out in front as we navigate the energy demand cycle that awaits us over the next decade and well into the future.

A little background on myself and my career journey…

I began my career in the oil and gas sector, working in drilling operations with ExxonMobil Development Company, before transitioning to the nuclear power industry at the South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Company. From 2007 to 2021, I served in roles of increasing leadership responsibility in engineering, project management, and maintenance, supporting two Westinghouse 4-loop pressurized water reactors.

In 2021, I joined NRG Energy as Site Engineering Manager at the W.A. Parish Electric Generating Station, a nine-unit generating site that includes a gas turbine with black-start capability. My team oversaw engineering programs, maintenance support, project development and implementation, budget development, abnormal system monitoring, and compliance responsibilities, with a focus on safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

I am excited to bring my experience and relationships in the power-generation sector to add value to WCEC, its members, and the organizations that supply power to our communities.

I am confident in the strength of our cooperative and especially in the employees who work every day to make WCEC successful. I am truly thankful for the opportunity to join the WCEC family and serve alongside such a dedicated team.

I want to thank Gary Raybon for his years of dedication and hard work in making this co-op successful. I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.

To our Board of Directors, thank you for your confidence in selecting me for this position. I intend to work alongside you to ensure WCEC’s success for many years to come.

To our membership, thank you in advance for your support and feedback as we work to meet your electricity needs safely and efficiently for years to come. It is my absolute pleasure to serve you.
